We have finished the flooring and woodwork downstairs, we have moved onto the steps going upstairs. Stripping them and refinishing them is the next project before we move upstairs.

Wood floor and baseboards are in! Woohoo!
The refinished heat registers don't look too bad either. Seems like since we uncovered the cold air return the furnace flow is tons better. Now the next project is to finish urethane and filling in the woodwork around the doors and windows. Then onto the steps. I am leaning toward refinishing what is there. Hopefully it will work.

I have not updated for quite a while. We have done a few projects and a few major ones will be coming in the next week. The upstairs bathroom was completely finished, kitchen and dining room painted. Finally after about 9 years we will be installing new wood floors and baseboard next week. Also on the list two old doors we salvaged will be refinished and hung up, refinished heat registers will also be installed. Hope to in the next few months redo and insulate upstairs bedrooms and insulate the downstairs living room. Will update pix soon.

We just got finished putting the new windows in the front porch. Next on the list is finishing the trim around them inside and out, and building the new entry door. Hopefully we can get rid of the siding that goes along the side and if we have to stucco that back in. Then it will be on to finishing shingling the garage and enclosing around the hot tub. Lots of little projects in the works. Hopefully we can get them all finished up.

We have been super busy with redoing our roof of our house. We decided a few years ago that when we re shingle our home we wanted to do wood shingles. So that is what we are doing. We have had many complements and lots of looky lous. When I get some pix I will post them on here.

Yes we are redoing the main floor bath, also tiled the laundry room, new plumbing and electrical. Hope to texture and tape tonight, and by the weekend have the hex tiles down! Also have the waistcoating in so I can paint all of that. Showing us tearing down wallpaper and some misc. of the bathroom redo.

Ok possible downstairs bath redo. Hubby said last night boy we need in floor heat down here. BINGO! Now I could dare ask him to tear it apart again so we can redo it. We basically put a bandaid on in when we moved in. Now I would like to redo it into the vintage feel that is in the rest of my home. Thinking 1' hex tile and beadboard 6 foot up. Color scheme will be whatever comes to me when we are doing the room. Also want to put in the bathroom if it works a cool old light that was in my parents old farmhouse they tore down.

Landscaping

I have been very busy outside keeping up with my excising and new landscaping. The main event this year was the installation of a pondless waterfall. We were going to do a pond but figured when we pour our cement patio there we really don't want to deal with standing water. Also we rescued from an old creek old light posts that were discarded more than 60 years ago. I am going to put the pieces back together and make a light that runs solar so we don't have to string electrical wire. The back yard beside the shed is also getting close to done, all rocks were used and plants in there final places. Hopefully by the end of the weekend we will just need to do cement yet.

First Day of Spring

WOW! What a long winter and now today is the first day of spring. Lots of projects on the board for this spring/summer. First will be the stamped concrete walk/patio south of the garage with the path going up to the shed. Also tons of landscaping to do here. Next will be replacing the driveway and then we will be shingling the roof of the house and the garage. Hopefully we have good weather and can complete our projects with time left to do some fishing. Last summer was all about the shed so hopefully this summer we get to do a little bit of relaxing. I am posting a few pictures of an armoire that Jayd redid for me to put in our living room for our TV.

Well this summer has gone fast. We have the garage/shop up and 1/2 insulated,needs paint yet and insulation in the rafters. We will hopefully have the thing painted in a few weeks. My landscaping plans will have to wait till next spring. Not going to be pouring a cement stamped pad this year any more.

I have been thinking about redoing the bathroom downstairs. Found a wonderful arts and crafts style paper for the top 1/4 of the wall and then I want do do scored tile like upstairs on the bottom 3/4 of the wall. Here is the paper choice.

I will try to update our painting progress in the next few weeks.

Progress on the garage, after today we will have all the cement poured. Materials are all delivered. We just have a few finish things yet to buy.

Well we have had tons and tons of gravel brought in. We are finally going to be done with that today. Jayd has the area all packed and formed up ready to go. Hopefully the weather holds out so on Saturday we can pour cement. Then the real work will begin.

Also my garage door came in. Can't wait to see it installed.....

Redneck Movers

We moved our old garage ahead this past weekend so we could get started prepping the area for our new garage. I wish I would have had pix of the garage on the flatbed trailer getting pulled ahead about 40 feet. It was quite interesting. And we had allot of looky loos also. I will try to take some pix this weekend of any more prep work. Reese will be driving the skid load again helping Jayd I am sure.

Playing Lumberjack

Well we played lumberjack the last few days cutting down some parts of the big tree next door in preparation for our garage. The kids had a good time. A few of the logs were too heavy for us to move so I suggested making a bench out of them.

We have started to stock up on building materials for out garage. We went yesterday and stocked up on what we needed that was on sale. We also decided that we would rather have them deliver then fill our truck up and make two trips to get the stuff when they can bring it all at once. Now this stupid snow just needs to go away.........

Tomorrow we have our variance hearing about the garage next door. I hope it goes through. I haven't had any of the neighbors call and ask us any questions or antying.

Also we have all the trim aorund the doors and windows stained. Jayd needs to fill nail holes and put laquer on yet. I am hoping I can do the final push to get the wood floors and base done this spring yet too. I guess we will have to see.

We are trying to make up our minds with this garage thing. We for sure have the dimensions agreed on 30x60 and also know we are going to take down the old garage that is there. We want it to have a craftsman feel to it to fit in with the other old houses in the neighborhood without costing allot of extra money. I submitted my request for a building permit and had to apply for a variance so I suppose the rest lies in the hands of my neighbors if they care or not. Hopefully we get good news in a few weeks that is when the variance hearing is supposed to take place.

I haven't posted for a while. We have had allot going on. We finally have a computer at our house now. So of course that meant redoing a space for the computer. I will post pix of that. Now we are in the process of getting everything ready for as soon as the snow melts we will be breaking ground on a new long awaited garage/shop for Jayd. We are running out of room for him to do his projects. Otherwise nothing else new going on with us or the house.

Weekend

Well after 5 years we finally have trim up around the windows. It still needs to be stained but it is up! It looks like a different house! We also started on trim around one door. So this coming weekend we will install the last of the windows the big set of three in the living room and trim that out and hopefully get everything three doors and one window) trimmed out. Then it will be staining and then maybe we can start taking about finishing the floors! Can I only dream??? LOL

Closets

We organized our closets this weekend. Jayd put in hanging racks in our room where we had the attic steps. We are not going to use the attic anymore so what a perfect place for a closet. I have all my clothes in there so now Cameron and Jayd share a closet. We also redid the closet in the hallway upstairs so that is now a linen closet. Now I can see what I actually have! I didn't realize how many towels we have........LOL

Also had the company party Saturday night. Was a good time we bowled first then went to eat and had a game show Deal or No Deal.

We (Jayd) got the crown put up on the colonnades. It looks excellent. He also started putting the woodwork back up around the upstairs windows. We need to patch a little bit around the windows were the plaster fell off and repaint the woodwork. That will be a winter project at least now I have my blinds up again.

That time of year again

We had the big birthday bash Saturday night. Lot of fun. Friends from Alaska were down. Havent seen them since 05' so that was nice. The only year there wasnt a party was 06' so it was nice to get back into it. As of tonight all the outside work will be done. Windows all patched in, installed and painted and patches all painted. Now we get to work on the inside. I am so excited to see what it is like to have trim around the windows downstairs. That hasnet been since we moved in, almost 5 years ago.

We are going to be very busy in the next few weeks. we have friends coming down from Alaska next weekend. That should be fun. Then the next weekend we have two weddings and a surprise b-day party in one day. and Jayd is in one of the weddings. I am going to be so shot! This weekend we will be helping my parents paint their barn. Should be fun the bro's will be there too.

We have finished trimming around the windows and patching stucco. Jayd just has to caulk a few areas and then we can paint the new trim and then we will be done outside. Yeah! Then on to finally getting trim around my windows after 5 years. I wont know how to act, LOL

We should have all the windows in by the end of the weekend. We are planning on getting up early tomorrow and start with the bedrooms upstairs and get those done. Then next week all we have to do is trim ouside and the move inside to trim which can be done when it is cold out. Just wanted to get the outside stuff done first.

The guys came and installed the new furnace and a/c yesterday. Boy did it feel good. They said the old a/c unit kinda fell apart when they took it out. It was about 40 years old so it was time. I will post pix of the progress made and hopefully the new windows in a few days. I am assuming windows will be here today or Friday since they did not come yesterday. We are going to be busy but it will be worth it because we will be closer to done!

Well our air officially took a dump this week. Luckily it has not been too hot. I called the guy that is coming to put in the new furnace AC and he said they would move us up the list and maybe get to us next week. Oh well we got all the new wire run so all they have to do is show up.

Windows will be here next week Wednesday. Exciting but I know how it is with us everything will happen all at the same time. LOL

Good news. We got our appraisal we wanted. More that what I thought it would be. I guess all of our work this weekend paid off. Now hopefully we will be able to be warm in cozy in our house this winter with new windows and a furnace.

Blown vacation time. We worked on the house for 5 days straight. The appraiser is coming today so hopefully we get the appraisal we want since we worked so darn hard. I feel sorry for the kids. We were so busy they had to entertain themselves. I hope all the hard work and sacrifice is worth it.

The entryway is totally done. the bath downstairs is totally done. The bath upstairs needs the medicine chest put in and the linen closet built. Otherwise trim and baseboards are up and painted. I am posting pix for everyone to see the great progress. Also pix of my beautiful rose bush.

Hello, Still here. Finished my mini makeover of the basement. Looks allot better. Now I am redoing the entryway and hopefully we are on our way to doing the windows and new furnace and air. Keep your fingers crossed. LOL
Surprisingly I haven't done any landscaping this year. We saw some nice rocks down by the river so one never knows I guess.

Not much new going on. I have my yard looking pretty good and I drug home some finds on garbage day. I really like this old wooden wheelchair I got. I have an urn with a fern in it on there. It looks pretty cool. The wallpaper in the basement is done on the one wall and I did a little tecnicue on the cabinets which looks pretty cool. It is too nice outside to finish it now. Seems like now that would be a nice rainy day project.

I think I am going to do a cheap redo of the basement. I moved a few things aorund and got 2 and a half rolls of wallpaper for $.01. LOL yes one penny. I also am going to revamp the countertop down there by doing the brown bag technique. Will post before and after pix.

Just got back to work on Tuesday from having surgery. My appendix was lying on my gallbladder so that is why I have been having all kinds of problems. Now I am feeling good as new.

I will be having my gallbladder out tomorrow so I wont be posting for a while. Here are a few pix of the bathroom as of today. Hubbard squash is the yellow color on the walls and the ceiling is white hydrangea. Both Sherwin Williams color palate. The pix of just white is Jayds scored tile. That will be painted a few shades lighter than the Hubbard squash.

Finally got a sink base that was not broke. Home Depot broke down and gave me half my money back gave me the floor display pedestal and the floor display toilet half off. So I brought the toilet that I had bought back to Menards. So in the end all the hassle was worth it because I ended up getting the toilet I really wanted out of the deal and at half the price.

Scored Plaster to look like Subway tile

Jayd did it again. When we tore off the paneling in our bathroom we saw that we had scored plaster on our walls made to look like 3x6. Well unfortunately we had to tear it out because we needed to insulate the walls and re-wire. Fortunately for me my husband is very talented because he recreated that scored plaster to look like tile on the drywall. Don't ask me how, but he did. It looks like we have regular subway tile on the walls till you get really close then you can tell it is scored. I will post pictures soon.

Not much new. We have the sheetrock up and Jayd has been putting mud on the walls. He still has to figure out the whole scored plaster look we are going to do on the bottom 6 foot of the walls. I am going to post some before and during pix also.

We are well on our way to our new bathroom. This weekend we put up our temporary bathroom in the basement and started tearing apart our bathroom upstairs. Didn't find much except some numbered floor joists and a beer can in the soffit above the shower that we knocked down. We also went to purchase our bath fixtures and tile. I will post pictures of the tear down as soon as I download them from my camera.

I forgot to post this but some friends of ours have purchased the old county home that I had pictures of on here. They are going to renovate it to live in. I am so glad at least one landmark in town missed the wrecking ball.

I might have finally convinced Jayd that we really should redo the upstairs bathroom. It ranks up there with the ugliest bathroom in America. We did paint and put a different counter top in about 2 years ago just to make it bearable. I am attach pictures of what I want my bathroom to have. I do have the lighting purchased. I have narrowed down my choices of paint colors from Sherwin Williams historical palate. I also have decided on 2 inch hex tile for the floor and 3x6 subway tile for in the shower part. Walls will be covered in panels looking bungalow like. The pictures attached should explain themselves. Toilet and sink are what I like but not set in stone.

Last night just for fun we went and looked at a property for sale. It use to be the County Home. Well lets just say that they will not be getting top dollar for it. It does have some good bones but there is so much garbage and stuff in there it is hard to see the potential. The Owner has not been in the upstairs in over 18 years. There is still whiskers in the sink and shampoo bottles in the shower and soap in the soap dish. Just crazy. If you has allot of money it would be fun to renovate and make it into apartments or a bed and breakfast. I am thinking it is going to receive a worse fate and face a wrecking ball. Too bad since it is a piece of history. I will post our pix of our tour.

We have not been up to much. Jayd is working on cabinets for our neighbors and I have been busy getting back into the school routine. We go fishing when we have time. I will try like I always do to post more often. Take care.

Happy New Year. Like my Christmas present? The columns are in. They are not stained yet but they are beautiful. They look like they have been there from day one. Not much else new. Yes,we are finally just about done with the downstairs. We skimcoated the living room and ceiling and painted it and the hallway upstairs. It looks so awesome. I finally got everything cleaned up and then Jayd comes home and wants to start to put the columns in. So he got out the sawsall and cut the opening in where you could see in the wall where the colonnades use to be. I like the big opening a lot better that the arch that was there. So last night I finally got that mess of plaster dust cleaned up. Jayd claims the dusty part of the job is over. Jayd also made a few of the panels for the bases of the columns last night with Cameron's help. I am excited to see them done. I definitely will borrow a camera and take pix so I can post them for everyone to see.

I have not posted for a while. We have been extremely busy scooping snow, doing the family thing for the holidays and now with the various programs and parties it seems we don't have a spare minute.

We have not sat in the hot tub for a few weeks. I did the other day and it was great but I was out there by myself because Jayd was trying to get the snow blower working. I don't think I will get him talked into going out there till the end of the week when it at least will be out of the negative temperature for once.

Supposedly Jayd is going to start on the living room now. When I go home tonight I am going to take down everything in the living room and move the Christmas tree in the front porch so he will have to do it. I want to paint during my week off between Christmas and New Years. Hopefully that happens.

Cameron will be 2 on Thursday so I am going to get the usual DQ ice cream cake for his party on Sunday. He is all excited about it.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! GOOLISH GREETINGS TO ALL!!!!!!!

We had another tip on an old duplex going to be torn down. So I tracked down the owner and asked him if it would be alright for Jayd and I to look around and see if there was anything we needed for our house in there. He said go ahead and all he wanted for it was a case of beer. I can do that! So Jayd and I tore into this place and got a few doorknob, window trim and base. I was hoping the wood floor would match but unfortunately it did not. I am posting a pix of the duplex so you can see why they are going to burn it down.

This week and last we have had noting going on. Jayd is finishing up his building he is doing so he should be around more. We have been enjoying the hot tub enormously. We have been trying to sit in it every night. I sold the old hot tub and have not had any phone calls from those people to the old tub must be working ok for them.

In a few weeks Jayd and I are going to a comedy show. It will be nice to get out for the night.

Jayd was really surprised. He didn't even have an inkling that anything was going to happen. I had the kids make him look at "something in the sandbox" and he looked right at it and never saw it till I said "look over there and pointed". I even gave him a thank you card for working so hard lately and telling him that we appreciate him when I am sure sometimes he doesn't think so.

I filled the tub and did the chemicals but the water was only 62 degrees yesterday and today before I left for work I checked it and it was 95 so it should be to 101 by tonight when Jayd and I want to sit in it for the first time. I will have pix to post on Monday.

Counting down for the big surprise. I am so excited I can hardly wait. World Wide is suppose to be showing up at 12 or a little bit after tomorrow to bring our new hot tub! First I have to go to school with Reese and have hot lunch, then home so I can be there when they show up.

I will post on Friday to let everyone know how it turned out. If I get pix I will post those also.

I have a secret. I am going to be surprising Jayd on Thursday (13th) with a hot tub.

We went and looked at a slightly used one on Sunday at Worldwide and it turned out it was the same one we had looked at last spring. Some guy had it and they said he was a rather "Large" guy. He was too small for the tub so he had it maybe 3 months and traded it for a bigger one.

I guess his loss my gain. It is the perfect size for us. We wanted one that was not so large but you could have 3 or four people in it if you wanted to. They said they would give me the full warranty and stuff, so I thought I could not pass it up.

I am so excited to be doing this for him, he has no idea and he has been working so hard lately I really wanted to do this for him. He has been talking about fixing the old one again and I didn't want to throw any more money into it and be disappointed when we got it all set up and running and the pipes would burst.

I hope now that we will have an awesome tub to relax in he will slow down a little bit and enjoy life.

Remember if you see him..........Don't say anything because it is suppose to be a surprise!

Not much new going on. Jayd is busy at his job trying to finish the building on time, so he is gone alot. I have been looking around at hot tubs again. It seems like this time every year we either had ours working or it sounds good to sit in one. Oh well maybe someday.

Another year has gone by. I feel we have been blessed and hope for many more years to come.

I finally have pix of the rental we painted.

We are working on the columns and hopefully this weekend we can tear into the wall in the living room...........another room tore apart. I told Jayd he had to get this one done as soon as possible because we are in there all the time. I will post pix of the columns that we are finishing too.

We are finished with our outside work for the year. We got Jerry's house painted and I painted where we patched stucco on our house. Now it is onto the living room and the collonades so I can strip them of one layer of ugly orangy tan paint and then we should be able to put them up.

Not much else new. Will post some more pix when they come available.

Busy Busy Busy

We have not be working on our house this week but on our rental next door. We have been busy power washing the siding off and getting it ready to paint this weekend. I came up with a few color schemes and majority ruled in favor of the one we liked the best too. We also had to take into consideration that it would match with the shingles we just bought too. I am going to post a picture of the color scheme we picked out. And by the way the house it just a sample......

Reese is still liking school. Lets keep our fingers crossed she keeps liking it for about 13 more years!!!!!!!!!

School and Last

Yesterday was a hard day for me as I sent Reese to school. I was fine till we got inside the school and I had to leave her there with all those kids. I was tear eyed and got out of there fast.

Needless to say Reese had a good time and wanted to stay there.

Five years has flown by as Reese turned 5 on Friday. Tomorrow she will be going to school. Seems like yesterday we brought her home from the hospital. She is so excited for school, and I can't wait for my daycare bill to go down!

We had to get a new door last night for the outside of our house. It has gotten so warped from the sun that hardly anyone could open it. So hopefully by the weekend the new door should be on.

Derek was over for Reese's party and took some pix of the refurbished door in the living room and the new windows. I will post those pix as soon as he emails them to me.

Seeing Clearly

We replaced two windows yesterday. We ordered the one for above the kitchen sink and the one for the bathroom downstairs. Jayd replaced them in no time. What a difference looking through those windows to the ones that are 100 years old. They also have low E so there is a slight tint, but that will help with cooling cost and it will not let the sun fade the floors or walls.

Derek should be coming over on Sunday for Reese's birthday so I will have him take pix of the windows then.

No rest for the Wicked

We have been busy, especially Jayd working all this overtime lately. The kids don't usually get to see him at night because he is not home yet when they have to go to bed. He makes up for it on Sundays when we go do what the kids want to do. We went fishing this week and we caught between the 3 of us (Missy, Jayd and Reese) 9 catfish in under an hour. We threw them back. We moved to another spot in the river where Jayd fished and the kids and I made a waterfall with rocks I was taking out of the river to put around my plants at home.

I am going to go register Reese for school today so then she should be all set. Less than two weeks. I have her crossing off the days on a calendar at home.

School and Stuff

I cant believe this summer is about over. Reese will be starting school pretty soon. We went school shopping on Saturday and got her stocked up.

I guess I have been busy landscaping the rental and a few places at our house. We planted a few new trees I got clearanced at Pamida. I hope they take off.

We finally got our door stripped, stained and hung that we rescued from a house being tore down. Whenever Derek gets over to our house again I will have him take a pix of it.

We also got two new windows that should be showing up any day. We will be replacing the window above the kitchen sink and the one in the downstairs bathroom. We have a plan of getting one or two new windows a year till we have the whole house replaced. I think that will take a while but oh well.

I am going to try to be a little bit more faithful from now on about updating this thing. There should be lots to tell in the coming months with Reese starting school and Jayd is supposedly going to start on my colonnades. I guess we will have to see. Stay tuned..........
